The role

Hands-on design, multiplied through the team.

As Lead UX/UI Designer and Head of Design, I was accountable for two connected things: the products we put in front of clients and the environment designers needed to do their best work. I stayed hands-on while leading the department, moving between product direction, detailed interface decisions, critique, and delivery with product managers and engineers.

How I contributed

  • Rebuilt Zensoft’s flagship product rather than simply reskinning it. I led a complete UX and UI overhaul, working directly with product managers and developers from the core usability problems through interaction design and the finished interface. The redesign made the product easier to use and increased user engagement and customer satisfaction.
  • Turned the redesign into a system the next team could use. We captured the successful interface decisions as shared components, interaction patterns, and standards instead of leaving them inside one product. Designers gained a clearer starting point, and developers received more consistent specifications.
  • Made design a repeatable part of delivery. I introduced processes and quality standards for how work was shaped, reviewed, and handed to engineering. That reduced variation between projects and made the department more consistent without forcing very different products into the same solution.
  • Developed designers through real project work. Critique focused on the decisions behind the screens, not just visual polish. I mentored team members on active assignments, helped them strengthen their craft, and supported progress toward their individual career goals.
  • Held a coherent quality bar across five very different products. The portfolio ranged from predictive aircraft maintenance and dental-practice operations to blockchain infrastructure and consumer mobile apps. I worked with each cross-functional team to adapt our shared standards to its users, constraints, and domain.
